My First Book: I am a physician and after an intense study of alternative medical ideas in the 1990's - I was excited about starting a holistic clinic. I have been interested in this field since the mid 1970's and I was a founding diplomate of The American Board of Holistic Medicine.
I found the obstacles to starting a clinic to be overwhelming so I turned to writing. My first book was in 2002 and is titled "Why Alternative Medicine and Why Now" with the subtitle 'A Primer on Holistic Medicine'. My marketing skills were not very good and although I gave copies to many people who I consider important in the field; I never did sell many copies. It can still be found on the Amazon website. In this book I examine the medical system and how it developed. I identify a fatal flaw which has caused society to develop in a biased and unhealthy way. As I follow western logic to an illogical conclusion, I discover the way to restore health; not only to individuals but also to society in general. ...
What does holistic mean? On the bottom footer of each page of my book it says "Becoming healthy requires becoming whole again". Basically we must realize that we are one. we are not body, mind, emotions and spirit. We are one functioning unity.
Clues from the Orient about a holistic approach to life. If it were not for the mixing of cultures this idea of holism would be hard to grasp for a western mind. Once the ideas from Chinese and Indian medicine were introduced here became an obvious difference.

The table below is a summary of my conclusions about what will what I believe will be the foundation for future generations in their approach to health. To summarize briefly; the system of divide and conquer has been applied to our scientific model. In the process we have divided everything, including our perception of self. In our process of analysis we have become fragmented into four parts: body, mind, emotions and spirit. We willingly accept body and mind and have created professions to care for each. We have psychiatrists to fix our minds and doctors to fix our physical bodies. For the spirit we have created churches to guide us. The emotions are somewhat neglected; we can turn to fiends for support and in difficult times we may turn to psychics and fortune tellers.
Early in society we had a choice to make. We needed a method to resolve problems. There were two choices. We could either cooperate or we could compete. We chose to compete and this has resulted in the world we know. If we had chosen to cooperate with one another, we would know a very different world. The world of competition is governed by rules like "All is fair in love and war" and as a result we have developed a society where lying and cheating are the norm. The world of cooperation is governed by a different set of rules. If cooperation is to work then truth and justice become essential. So, let me be brief and say that in order to be spiritually healthy people need individual liberty. This requires a system where human rights are protected. In order to be mentally healthy people need truth. In order to be emotionally healthy people need justice. And finally to be physically healthy we will need to change our focus from treatment of the symptoms of disease to prevention. So, the above analysis describes four categories but my table has eight. There is an expression that as above; so below. To apply that here, I suggest that we cannot have healthy people unless society is healthy. As people (society) we come together to form governments. If we want a healthy society then our government must follow the rules of cooperation: that being truth, justice and the American Way (of Liberty). Therefore, in order for society to be healthy our government must be held to follow the rules of cooperation. If people are to have spiritual health then government must work to secure human rights - especially individual liberty. If people are to have emotional health then government must act with justice. If people are to have mental health then government must be open and truthful. If people are to have physical health then government must set standards free of political influence which are in the best interest of the people. |
The Fundamental Model to Holistic Health
We cannot have healthy people unless society is healthy. I have a separate website devoted to the issue of health.
